RAD-LABS: Reactive Attachment Disorder Learning Alternative Behavioral Strategies
Helping You and Your Family Find Your Way
RAD LABS Training Series for Parents of Children With Reactive Attachment Disorder
Reactive Attachment Disorder: How to Thrive and Survive Beyond the Diagnosis is a training program for parents and caregivers of children with Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD). Often referred to as RAD LABS, the training is focused on Learning Alternative Behavioral Strategies. RAD LABS can be presented as a series of five, one-hour sessions or as a weekend-long intensive workshop.
RAD LABS provides information, education and support for parents and caregivers. It engages the participants in topical discussions and provides plenty of time for questions. The facilitators use humor, empathy and their own personal and professional experience to help participants learn strategies for success and self-care.
RAD LABS was developed and is presented jointly by Deena McMahon, LICSW, MSW, and Krista Nelson, LICSW, LMFT. Together they have more than 50 years of experience working with families and children.
Deena McMahon, MSW, LICSW has more than 30 years’ experience as a therapist working with families and children. She speaks throughout Minnesota and nationally on the dynamics of attachment, brain development and early trauma and is an expert in how to serve children and families involved in the child welfare system effectively. She also has expertise in child sexual abuse and frequently serves as an expert witness in court proceedings regarding permanency issues and other child welfare issues.
Krista Nelson, LICSW, LMFT has been the Project Coordinator for the Wilder Foundation Center for Children with Reactive Attachment Disorder in St. Paul since 2001. Krista is a licensed family therapist and clinical social worker with 23 years of experience working with children and families going through difficult life transitions.

As a result of today’s training, I am better able to be a great mom!Adoptive parent and RAD LABS Training Series Attendee
My expectations in these trainings were exceeded. This is the umpteenth training I’ve attended, but this is the one I did not want to end. My network of supportive parents has grown and I can be confident that the relationship [with my child] is the most important thing.Adoptive parent and RAD LABS Training Series Attendee
